Starfish Ministries OC

Starfish Ministries OC is based at Rose Drive Friends Church in Yorba Linda, California. We take our name from the story by Loren Eiseley about the thousands of starfish washed up on the beach (http://muttcats.com/starfish.htm) and the one boy who makes a difference to one starfish at a time.

There are 143 million orphans on the planet today. Some are as close as next door, and others are many thousands of miles away in a faraway land. Wherever they may be located, God's answer to the orphan's plight is you and me - individual believers who choose to follow the clear directives laid out for us in Scripture. God will call each of us in different ways. Some of us will host an orphan in our home. Some of us will be called to short-term missions. Others might be called to foster care or crisis care, or to provide financial support to meet orphans' material needs. Some of us will be called to pray, and some of us to actually adopt a child and bring that child into our families.

However God calls you, the important thing is to be faithful to heed the call and follow Him. God's heart is with the orphan. Is yours?

Laurie, This is a great idea for a group! I live in VA, but I work long-distance with Stand Up For Kids in OC, CA. 13 homeless kids die EVERY DAY in America. It's sad. Many are thrown out of their homes by their parents when they're 12, 13, 14; or they lose a single parent who goes to jail, or dies. Many run away from abuse -often sexual abuse by a step-parent. So sad. I don't know if you're talking about  orphans by parental deaths, or those who are orphaned by circumstance. Either way, it's heart-breaking to see. Those that help aren't always Christians. Many non-faith organizations are out there and it surprises me that more Christians aren't involved. Stand Up For Kids offers free training for volunteers. Once a week they meet with teens to restock their food (backpacks), give the girls tampons etc, and take them to job interviews, or just talk to them. Thanks for what you're doing!
